How to Use Napkins at a Dining Table?

A napkin at a dinner table is a thing that most of the people take for granted as it seems to confuse them. Many do not know that dinner napkins are used as tools as well as signals during a meal; and therefore, it is found at every fine dine restaurant in every city including Jaipur. So, what are the basic uses of a napkin that everyone should know about?


Follow the steps below to use the napkin elegantly and reflect the practice of good dining decorum wherever you go!

1. Begin A Meal: After you have seated at a restaurant, to begin a meal, place your napkin on your lap. Remember to do it without making any fuss, and it is preferable that you unfold it rather than shake it to open.

2. During a Meal: You can use the napkin to catch crumbs, gently wipe your mouth & fingers to avoid having stains on the cloths. It can be used to catch germs when you need to sneeze or cough. The most important use of napkin during a meal that not everyone is aware of is to fold a napkin the way it was to tell the chef that you did not like the dishes.

3. End a Meal: When your meal is done, fold your napkin and place it towards the left side of the plate. It is an indication for the waitperson or the servers in restaurantsin Jaipur like cities that you should be served a finger bowl. This is also a signal to your fellow diners that the meal is over. 

Useful Tips:
1.         Do not clean your utensils or wipe your face with the dinner napkin.
2.         Place it to the side if you want to get up during the meal.
3.         Do not place it anywhere on the body other than your lap.
4.         Always have a napkin while having a meal; if the server doesn’t provide one, ask for it.
